Hello!

Welcome, Friend! I’m Kate, a Messianic homeschooled high-schooler from Kansas. I love whipped cream, spending time with friends and family, reading, writing, and photography.

I live on a small farm near Kansas City with my parents and my dog.

This is my dog Skye.

Let me tell you a bit about myself.

  • I love history, books, Adventures In Odyssey, Yeshua (Jesus), small children, friends, and my family.
  • I have two siblings, both of whom are married and have children. Between my brother’s and sister’s families, I have seven nieces and nephews.
  • I would always rather dress up than down, and heels are my favorite shoes.
  • Hot and iced caramel lattes are amaaaaa-zing.
  • I love school and opportunities to learn–part of that reading thing, I suppose.
  • I have a passion for writing short bits of fiction, and I also have strong opinions. These combined have given me a reason to write a lot, and I love it.
  • Over the past couple of years, photography has recently become a hobby of mine, and I hope to take more pictures in the future.
  • I love music, primarily any Big Band, Celtic folk, Christian, country, and old hymns.
  • Old movies are so awesome. Especially musicals. That is all I have to say.
  • I love being in the kitchen and whipping up a meal or baked goods. I decorate cakes any chance I get, and would love to do that as a side job eventually.
  • I love vintage fashions and tend to wear at least an element of 1940s or ’50s styles nearly every day.
  • Research, as long as I don’t have to write an APA paper, is my best friend, and I love doing biographies.
  • I can’t not have a project going. For example, last Christmas break, I wrote an essay for a contest–because I was bored. What high-schooler does that? Apparently me.
Rosie the Riveter!

Now, about my blog.

an old-fashioned girl

My inspiration is the book by Louisa May Alcott, An Old-Fashioned Girl. It is the story of a girl from the country who goes to visit a rich friend in the city. Her morals are tested, and she is teased about being “old-fashioned”, with her clothing choices, manners, and morals. I love all of Louisa May Alcott’s books, but this one is the one that I feel would be the most applicable to modern life, with the lessons it teaches and story it tells.

Here, I will discuss a variety of topics: projects, opinions, book and movie suggestions, history, my life in general, and rants. I can’t promise regular posts(life generally gets in the way), but I’ll do my best to give you something. I can be very long-winded and opinionated(it’s the Scotch and Irish coming out), and I’ll be hard-pressed to keep my posts short. Anyway, I hope you at least glean some insight, if not learn a few things.

So, there you have it! You’ve gotten to know me a little, and you’ve already made it through one of my mini-rants. Thanks for joining me on this journey called Life! I hope you will continue with me in looking with joy to the future and with respect to the past.

Until we meet again,

Kate
